AP Latin Vergil!
I just started the course today (since school started today), and came up with the ingenious (or so I thought) plan of posting the work that I do each day up here somewhere on LiveJournal, to archive it for the future. (And, y'know, to help out the other people who will take the class long after I've graduated.)
Interested? View my forays into the Aeneid here
and feel free to befriend that journal, if you'd like. :)

I was extremely thrilled to discover the classics-related communities that exist around LJ, and decided to join the ones I could get my hands on. ;)
So. Hi. My name's Kimberly. I'm what my friends and everyone else calls an obsessed Latin student who has taken Latin I, II, III, and I've just completed the AP Latin Literature course. Next year, I'm hitting AP Latin: Vergil. And I just can't wait.
So far, my favorite classical piece of literature that I've translated has been Ovid's Metamorphoses
, although I'm very much looking forward to translating Vergil's Aeneid
I enjoy any opportunity to improve my conversational skills in Latin, and for anyone with a similar interest, please don't hesitate to contact me, whether by email, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. I'm always open to a colloquium with other Latin students and scholars. :)
(This message has been cross-posted to several other classics/Latin-related communities, so you may see it more than once. ;)

Sign the petition to save Latin at this high school!
I took my first Latin course nearly 10 years ago and I hear my high school is currently trying to cancel a third year Latin course, so they can make room for science/math/business and other more "practical" courses. This is ridiculous. The decision will be made Friday and we need as much support as possible.
Please read more about it here:http://www.perpetualstroll.org/archives/003331.php
And take the time to sign the petition here and be sure to add comments on how Latin has been important in your life / why it should be kept:http://savelatin.cjb.net
If you could spread the URL and get everyone you know to sign this, it would be much appreciated! Thanks for your support everyone!

Only three more poems (101, 109, 116) until my huge class of two students is done with the Catullus syllabus! Hoooooray! Then like 4 weeks of review until the AP exam. I'm excited.

Ok, technically, I'm not in AP Latin... yet! yet! Next year, you'll be looking at the only girl in Magister Stafford's AP Vergil class. I know, I'm such a geek but whatever! So, hi!

Dona eis requiem
x-posted in: aplatin
Hi. My name is Kim, I'm 18 and have been studying latin (among other things) for no more than a year. However, for reasons that still elude me, I have decided to take on a project that lies way beyond my skills. For my final school year, for the stand-alone large random project we all have to do (i.e. this is not just a hobby thing I can put aside a couple of years), I am going to collaborate with a music-student in writing a Requiem. That is, she'll compose it and I'll write the lyrics. In latin.I... need... your... help
First of all I thought I'd ask, is anyone here particularly interested in this project? Or is there anyone particularly willing to help? Because if so I can ask you first rather than posting here every time I have a question... I'm not out to annoy people.
Also, if you feel that I definatly shouldn't
post questions here (which I'd understand, there will be a lot of them probably), please tell me now.( First things's firstCollapse )

*waves* My name's Meow and I joined this community on false premises. I'm just a wannabe A.P. Latin student. A.P. Latin conflicted with my A.P. Chemistry class. :( I'm really disappointed because this year A.P. Latin is going to be Catullus (and other authors too, I think?) and I <3 him. Anyway, because of other scheduling conflicts - which are common at my school: there are three levels of each class yet only 800 students so there's only one of most Honors/A.P. classes - Honors Latin 2 and Honors Latin 3, which I'm taking, are going to be combined. It should be interesting... Good luck to all of you!

So, I'm 30 lines into the Aeneid, and I'm not hating it as much as I thought.
Only one other person and I are taking AP Vergil, so we basically get to plan out for ourselves whatever work/homework we are going to do , and our teacher helps us from time to time when we need it. I love this kind of work enviroment.
It makes me feel all college-y.
Does anyone else have this kind of setting?
Because I think it's the best way to learn.
Btw, is anyone ever going to do a layout for the community?
Because the default layout is annoying me.
